European Under 23 Fencing Championships

Dear member federations, dear participants,

I take it as a special privilege to welcome you all to the first ever European Championships for fencers under 23 years of age.

The last EFC/CEE Congress in Gent has unanimously agreed to start this event as a pilot project – and I am hopeful it will prove a success in order to continue in the years to come. The basic idea to start this new championship, proposed by Hungary and Italy, is to keep our potential within our fencing family.

Hopefully the majority of our 44 federations will take advantage of this possibility and give their fencers who did not qualify for this year’s world championships or Olympic Games a chance to meet with other strong fencers in their age group.
Thanks go to the Italian Federation and the Monza Organizing Club for their engagement to host this championship – and I wish all participants a good time in this city, so far mostly known for the automobile racing.

Max W.F. Geuter
General Secretar EFC/CEE
